  • Description
  • The Brown Bird Wrasse is a very beautiful and unique wrasse. Brown Bird Wrasses have a long and slender body that is mostly tan with some dark brown spots which fade to a brown body towards the back of the fish. Brown Bird Wrasses are the female versions of the Green Bird Wrasse. Brown Bird Wrasse also have a long beak like mouth that allows them to get prey in the tightest of places.

Brown Bird Wrasses reach a maximum adult size of around 12 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 125 gallons. Brown Bird Wrasses are strong jumpers and need to be kept in tanks with a tight fitting hood with no holes large enough for them to jump through.

Brown Bird Wrasses are aggressive fish and shouldn’t be kept with smaller fish, since they will either harass or eat them. For this reason, Brown Bird Wrasses do not do well in reef tanks. Brown Bird Wrasses should really be kept in large fish only tanks. If you want to keep a male female pair, make sure the female gets acclimated to your tank before adding a male.

Brown Bird Wrasses are carnivores and require a diet rich in meaty foods. Foods like mysis and brine shrimp, high quality frozen foods, high quality flake and pellet foods as well as small chunks of fresh seafood will keep your Brown Bird Wrasse happy and healthy.
