  • Description
  • The Eight Lined Wrasse is a very useful and active wrasse. Eight Lined Wrasses have a mostly whitish pink body with eight strong red vertical stripes, hence their name.

    Eight Lined Wrasse reach a maximum adult size of around 5 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 55 gallons in size. Eight Lined Wrasses are aggressive fish but are ok in reef tanks. Eight Lined Wrasses will not bother coral, but will attack some inverts and similar wrasses. Eight Lined Wrasses are strong jumpers and need to be kept in tanks with a tight fitting lid with no holes large enough for them to jump through.

    Eight Lined Wrasses do well in pairs or small groups of all females or one male with multiple females. Male Eight Lined Wrasses will be aggressive towards each other. Eight Lined Wrasses need to have plenty of live rock and sand in their tanks. Eight Lined Wrasses will spend all day picking at small inverts off of rock and also hide in the rock if they feel threatened. Eight Lined Wrasses will also burrow in the sand at night, and will be stressed if they do not have a sand bed to burrow in.

    Eight Lined Wrasses are carnivores and require a diet that is rich in meaty foods. Foods like mysis and brine shrimp, high quality meaty frozen foods and high quality flake and pellet foods will keep your Eight Lined Wrasse healthy and happy.
