  • Description
  • The Red Pygmy Possum Wrasse is a smaller wrasse species with bright red coloration. The majority of the Red Pygmy Possum Wrasses body is red with white vertical stripes and large black spots.

Red Pygmy Possum Wrasses reach about 3 inches with they are mature and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 20 gallons in size. Red Pygmy Possum Wrasses also tend to be jumpers, so you need to keep a tight fitting hood on your tank with no holes large enough for them to jump through if spooked.

Red Pygmy Possum Wrasses are slightly aggressive to other wrasse species and will sometimes fight over territories. Having a larger tank with lots of live rock for them to hide in and very important to reducing aggression. Otherwise Red Pygmy Possum Wrasses will not bother other fish, coral and inverts found in reef tanks, making them a decent choice for reef tanks.

Red Pygmy Possum Wrasses are carnivores and require a diet rich in meaty foods. Foods such as mysis and brine shrimp, high quality meaty frozen foods and high quality flake and pellet foods will help your Red Pygmy Possum Wrasse grow and thrive.
