  • Description
  • The Saddle Anemone is a very large and extremely colorful anemone. Saddle Anemones often take the form of a saddle and come in a huge host of colors.

Saddle Anemones are an extremely aggressive species of anemone. Their sting is very strong and will even severely injure humans. For this reason you must use extreme care when handling a Saddle Anemone. Saddle Anemones are great hosts for some clownfish, but it is really best to not keep other fish besides clowns in a tank with Saddle Anemones, since often times the Saddle Anemone will kill other fish.

Saddle Anemones can also be very aggressive towards coral, so if you plan on adding one to your reef tank you need to proceed with caution. Saddle Anemones can get very large, sometimes over two feet in diameter. You need to take this into consideration when adding one to your system. Saddle Anemones tend to like system with bright lights and strong water flow as well. They will often move around the tank looking for an area they like the best.

Saddle Anemones are carnivores and require a diet that is rich in meaty foods. Foods like chunks of fish, crab, shrimp and scallops should be offered to your Saddle Anemone a few times a week. Doing so should keep your Saddle Anemone healthy and happy.
