  • Description
  • Maxima Clams are some of the most striking clams that are commonly kept in reef aquariums. Maxima Clams are really well known for the intense coloration of their mantle. There are huge price ranges for Maxima Clams, which reflect just how vibrant their coloration is.

Maxima Clams will normally reach a fully grown size of around 8 inches in a home reef aquarium. They are peaceful and can be kept with other clams in close proximity. Maxima Clams are 100% reef safe and shouldn’t bother any small fish, inverts of corals found in reef tanks.

Maxima Clams are great additions for reef tanks, since they require conditions very similar to coral to thrive. Maxima Clams do the best in tanks that have excellent water quality and intense lighting. Smaller Maxima Clams need to be acclimated slowly to lighting found in our tanks. Also Maxima Clams will often attach to substrate or rock, it is best to allow them to release their grip by themselves, most times forcing them to let go will cause fatal damage to the clam.

Maxima Clams are filter feeders and should get most of their supplement nutrition through the water column. Their primary source of nutrition comes from the relationship they have with algae coming from photosynthesis.
