  • Description
  • The Serpent Starfish is a large and useful starfish. Serpent Stars have a round central disc with five long skinny arms extending out from it. Serpent Starfish are typically brown in coloration with darker stripes along their long arms.

Serpent Stars reach a maximum adult size of around 14 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 55 gallons in size. Serpent Starfish are peaceful starfish and will not bother other inverts, coral or fish in your tank. This makes the Serpent Starfish a great addition to reef tanks.

Serpent Starfish will do best when kept in tanks with lots of live rock for them to hiding in during the day. During the night and evening hours, the Serpent Starfish will venture out and scavenge for meaty bits of leftover foods. This makes the Serpent Starfish a great addition to your tank's clean up crew. Serpent Starfish should not be kept with larger overly aggressive fish like puffers or triggers that might develop a taste for it. Serpent Starfish are very sensitive to air and should never be exposed to it. Also Serpent Starfish will need to be acclimated over a time period of at least two hours.

Serpent Starfish are carnivores and need to be fed a diet that is rich in meaty foods. While they will get most of their nutrition from what they can find in the tank, Serpent Starfish can be fed foods like mysis and brine shrimp, high quality meaty frozen foods and small pieces of fresh seafood.
