  • Description
  • The Sand Dollar is a very interesting and rarely seen invert in home aquariums. Sand Dollars have a mostly tan to brown circular body. The Sand Dollars body is completely covered in short spikes as well.

Sand Dollars reach a maximum adult size of around 3 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 55 gallons in size. Sand Dollars are peaceful creatures that will not bother other fish, coral or inverts in your tank. This makes the Sand Dollar a great addition to reef tanks.

Sand Dollars will do best in tanks that have plenty of live rock and sand for them to hide in and look for food in. Sand Dollars are very slow moving creatures and should not be kept with fish that enjoy eating inverts. Sand Dollars will spend most of their time going around your tank looking for small pieces of food to eat. This makes the Sand Dollar a pretty good addition to your tanks clean up crew.

Sand Dollars are omnivores and require a diet that is rich in both meaty and green foods. For the most part Sand Dollars will get most of their nutrition from what they can find in your tank. If you would like to supplement the diet of a Sand Dollar, simply feed the tank small foods like mysis and brine shrimp, high quality frozen foods and high quality flake and pellet foods.
