  • Description
  • The Coral Catfish is a stunning and unique saltwater catfish. Coral Catfish start life as mostly black fish and as they age they become more tannish brown with strong white horizontal strips. Coral Catfish also have long barbels coming off their mouth.

Coral Catfish reach a maximum adult size of around 12 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 90 gallons in size. Coral Catfish are aggressive fish and will attack smaller fish when larger, as well as some inverts. For these reasons, if you'd like to add a Coral Catfish to your reef tank, please proceed with caution.

Coral Catfish are found in the wild in large groups and are a social species and should only be kept together in small groups or pairs, Coral Catfish kept by themselves will not do well over time. Coral Catfish spend most of their time at the bottom of the tank and should be kept in tanks that have a decent depth sand bed.

Coral Catfish are omnivores but require meatier foods in their diet. Foods like mysis and brine shrimp as well as high quality meaty foods will keep your juvenile Coral Catfish healthy and thriving. As your Coral Catfish matures, it will need to be fed larger pieces of fresh seafood to get enough nutrition.
