  • The Sohal Tang is an extremely beautiful yet aggressive tang. Sohal Tangs have a mostly grayish white body with strong blue and black horizontal stripes. Sohal Tangs also have strong blue highlights on their fins and a beautiful orange spot and scalpel.

    Sohal Tangs reach a maximum adult size of around 16 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 240 gallons in size. Sohal Tangs are strong swimmers and require a tank that is fairly long with plenty of swimming room. Sohal Tangs are peaceful to most other non-tang species of fish, especially those that do not complete with them for algae. For this reason, Sohal Tangs are decent fish to add to a reef tank.

    Sohal Tangs are extremely aggressive to other tangs, especially those in the Acanthurus family. If a Sohal Tang is present in the tank, it will be the dominant tang. To try to lower tang aggression, try to have an always available supply of algae sheets in the tank, preferably on different rocks. Also try to introduce all your tangs at the same time.

    Sohal Tangs are herbivores and require a diet that is very rich in green foods. Foods such as Nori, marine algae sheets, high quality flake and pellet foods and mysis and brine shrimp will help your Sohal Tang grow and thrive.
