  • Description
  • The Fire Shrimp is by far one of the top five most popular shrimp kept in reef aquariums. Fire Shrimp have a fully deep red body with white markings on their backs.

Fire Shrimp reach a maximum adult size of around 2 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 29 gallons in size. Fire Shrimp are peaceful shrimp and shouldn't bother other fish, inverts or coral in your tank. Fire Shrimp will sometimes also clean some fish of parasites, they are not really known to do this as often as Cleaner Shrimp though.

Fire Shrimp should be kept in tanks with lots of live rock for them to hide in during the day. Fire Shrimp do not like intense light found in reef tanks and need to take refuge during the day. Fire Shrimp will also scavenge for food, making them a good addition to clean up crews. Fire Shrimp should not be kept in tanks with bad water parameters or with overly aggressive large fish or eels.

Fire Shrimp are carnivores and require a diet that is rich in meaty foods. Foods like mysis and brine shrimp, high quality meaty frozen foods and small pieces of fresh seafood will keep your Fire Shrimp healthy and happy.
