  • Description
  • The Pistol Shrimp is a stunning and very useful shrimp to have in your tank. Pistol Shrimp come in many different colors and patterns, please make sure you select the Pistol Shrimp you want when adding one to your cart.

Pistol Shrimp reach a maximum adult size of around 2 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 29 gallons. Pistol Shrimp are peaceful shrimp and shouldn't bother other fish, coral or inverts in your tank. Pistol Shrimp make a clicking noise when they use their pincher. This noise can easily be confused with the sound a Mantis Shrimp makes. Unlike the Mantis, the Pistol Shrimp will not kill fish or coral in your tank.

Pistol Shrimp will spend most of their time looking for algae and leftover foods in your tank. Pistol Shrimp also form an interesting relationship with some Gobies. The Pistol Shrimp and Goby will share a burrow and make a truly amusing pair. The iodine level in your tank must be good to keep a Pistol Shrimp, since they require it to molt correctly.

Pistol Shrimp are omnivores and require a diet that is rich in both meaty and green foods. Foods like mysis and brine shrimp, high quality frozen foods and high quality pellet and flake foods will supplement your Pistol Shrimps diet from what they can find in the tank.

Please feel free to contact us at any time if you have any questions about the Pistol Shrimp and if it's the right shrimp for your tank.
